Missions for Health (M4H) Report (June 4 to 9, 2014)

The day started at EQSBC Dental Clinic at 8:30 a.m. (6/5)

At the end of the day there were 34 patients had extractions (some with multiple extractions) and 23 patients had cleaning done to their teeth.

The staff was as follows:

  1. Dr. Vanisia Grant
  2. Dr. Alicia Bartley (local)
  3. Evelyn Cammock (Nurse)
  4. Jabbar James (local Hygienist and Dental student)
  5. Jonnoi Fletcher  (local Hygienist and Dental student)
  6. A dental assistant  (local)
  7. A nurse  (local)
  8. Multi-media (Cameron Grant and Sheena Sharpe)
  9. Casie Grant – Volunteer
  10. Christan Grant – Volunteer
  11. Cecille Grant – Volunteer
  12. Caliah Grant – Volunteer

We had a very hard working staff that did not break for lunch due the number of patients waiting patiently to be helped.

Dental supplies (tooth-brush, tooth-paste and flows) were given to each patient in a tote bag.

Thanks to Grace-Kennedy for hosting a well meal reception at University Crescent, at the home of the Nembhards.

At Covenant City Church (6/6):

There were 8 patients seen for extractions (some with multiple extractions) and 16 patients had cleaning done.

The staffs were as follows:

  3. Jabbar James (local Hygienist and Dental student)
  4. Jonnoi Fletcher  (local Hygienist and Dental student)
  5. Multi-media (Cameron Grant and Sheena Sharpe)

  8. Cecille Grant – Volunteer
  9. Caliah Grant – Volunteer

 

M4H wishes to thank Dr. Irving McKenzie (Chief Dental Officer in the Ministry of Health and Dean of the Dental School at UTech), for loaning two portable dental chairs and instruments to support the hygienists.

Thanks to LASCO for hosting a well meal reception at Pegasus Gardens.

. On Saturday night M4H hosted a reception at the Pegasus hotel.

In addition to the M4H team were Jabbar James, Jonnoi Fletcher , Dr. Roy Henry (Pastor of EQSBC), Lynnette the Church Secretary and  Deacon Brown.

M4H donated EQSBC $45,000.00 worth of dental supplies, which were purchased from Cari-Med Ltd and QualCare Ltd, both local companies.

 

Jabbar James was awarded a scholarship for $55,000.00, made payable to UTech for his dental studies. He will be providing bi-monthly dental cleaning at EQSBC Dental Clinic with the financial support of M4H.

 

Jonnoi Fletcher was awarded a scholarship for $165,000.00, made payable to UTech for his dental studies.

 

M4H was able to make contact with the follow persons;

  1. Dr. Peter Phillips – Minister of Finance
  2. Kelia-Gaye Dunbar – Marketing Manager of LASCO
  3. Chris Gayle – Jamaican Cricketer with the West Indies Team.
  4. Emprezz Mullings-Golding – TV Host

We were able to share the M4H vision and plans for the future. We hope that these contacts will assist us in driving our vision.

 

Patients seen over the two days (6/5 to 6/6)

  1. 23 (C) + 34 (E) = 57
  2. 16 (C) + 08 (E) = 24

Total number of Patients attended to by M4H equal 81.
